Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner

Looking for a tear-jerker? Here it is. Michelle Zauner masterfully describes her perspective on growing up as a Korean-American in Oregon and New York. Between the heartbreaking death of her mother and her coming-of-age-esque tale woven through the foods of her culture, Zauner had me chuckling, crying, and preparing to study Korean cuisine so that I can taste some of it for myself.

Everything Sad is Untrue by Daniel Nayeri

Daniel Nayeri nails the human condition in this magical "legend," blending the story of his experience as an Iranian immigrant with Persian tales. Gotta give it the *chef's kiss* (thanks, Gen-Z for re-popularizing that lingo)! Between life-lessons and poop stories, Nayeri had me laughing aloud and recommending this read to all my friends.

***For best results, listen to both of these as audiobooks- adds real depth to the story for me to hear the author's inflection and pronunciation of foods, places, and names!
